Josh.ai: Meet the Team — Gavin 🆕
What do you do at Josh? I’m the newest member of the support team here to help resolve issues big and small and all with an even keeled demeanor never getting too close to the problem to miss the solution.
Where are you from originally? Marion, IA
What do you love about the smart home? I love thoughtful and fun programming; for example when we leave home and activate our goodbye scene we are alerted if we happen to have forgotten to close the bunny cage. A smart home should make your life easier and more enjoyable to live in.
What are you most excited about over the next few years? I’m excited to see how home automation leverages AI to transition from programmed actions to more intelligent control, proactively adapting to peoples’ lives, while avoiding the outcome of the Disney Channel Original Movie Smart House.
iPhone or Android? Android but I use both on a daily basis as I have a fear that if I stop using one for long enough I’ll get “old.”
What do you do for fun? I love getting outside to run, bike, or relax. My wife and I brew beer and host a monthly karaoke night at a local pub. I also started a bluegrass jam with some friends a few years ago and host a weekly run club.
If you could go anywhere, where would it be? I mean, I love running trails in Colorado but that feels a little biased since that’s also where the Josh headquarters is. Maybe it’s just meant to be.
Favorite restaurant in the world? I actually don’t have one but I love taking my wife to her favorite Mexican restaurant in town on our two person E-bike!
Favorite IoT / smart home product? My favorite gadget is actually my smart mug. I’m the type of person who hand grinds my coffee then immediately forgets to drink it because I’ve found a new bug. Knowing my coffee will be 137°F exactly when I remember it exists has been a game changer.
What is your favorite feature of Josh? I love being able to assign a Micro to an area so when I ask Josh to play music it automatically plays in all those rooms.
Favorite books / reading material / websites? I’m not much of a reader but have been reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance for years, someday I will finish it! My favorite website would be the Polk Audio Forum where a ton of really interesting audiophiles discuss speaker upgrades and anything else audio you can think of.
