After the Flames: Helping LA Rebuild and Remembering an $83M Masterpiece

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating Los Angeles fires. As of January 27th, the recent Los Angeles wildfires have caused unimaginable destruction, impacting hundreds of thousands of California residents. The Palisades and Eaton fires alone have destroyed or damaged over 6,300 homes, totaling more than 10,000 homes that have been impacted across the region. These fires have also resulted in at least 28 fatalities and forced over 200,000 residents to evacuate. The most devastating natural disaster in recent memory for the area has caused the loss of personal possessions, architectural landmarks, cultural history, and indispensable infrastructure for the community.

Briefly offered for rent at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic for $350,000 per month, this Pacific Palisades home sold for $83 million to an unknown cryptocurrency billionaire in Los Angeles. A breath-taking architectural masterpiece designed by Ardie Tavangarian, the 20,000 square foot mansion includes 6 bedrooms, 18 bathrooms, a $2 million 40-foot-tall curved wall, wine cellar, home theatre, car turntable, retractable roof, and two panic rooms.

An Enduring Community & Spirit

The Pacific Palisades has long been a haven for artists, architects, filmmakers, and visionaries. It is a community defined by creativity, resilience, and a deep connection to its surrounding natural beauty. The loss of historic architecture, from Richard Neutra’s modernist designs to Ray Kappe’s Keeler House, is traumatic for the people who lived in them as well as the architectural and design world at large.

Above all, the greatest loss is the community itself. Neighbors who built lives together, raised families, and created special memories in their coastal enclave. As residents start looking at rebuilding, we want to recognize what was lost and what endures — The unwavering spirit of the Palisades, the determination to move forward, and the bonds that make it a home for so many Angelinos.

Looking Ahead

While the fires have left an unimaginable void, the resilience of the Pacific Palisades community remains unshaken. As Josh.ai continues to innovate and shape the future of technology in the home, we recognize living spaces are made up of much more than walls, technology, and design. The people, memories, and shared experiences are what truly make a house a home.

We invite you to watch our keynote, filmed at this remarkable home, as a tribute to the beauty and innovation that once stood there.

We don’t know when the next disaster will hit, but the CEDIA Foundation is getting off the ground and one goal is to help the community moving forward. Any donation to the CEDIA Foundation to help future disasters would be appreciated: cediafoundation.org

To those affected, to the first responders, and to the communities working to rebuild — We stand with you.
